How to Boil Water

Ohhhhhhhhh my god. I've just lost all faith in my generation.

Okay...a portion of my generation. Never in my life have I witnessed an event which has caused such a deep, primal feeling of hopelessness I'm experiencing now. Okay, maybe that's also a major case of hyperbole (eek, literary device, get it off! get it off!).

But please, behold the (annotated) conversation I just witnessed -

A- can someone tell me how to boil water on a stove? and no this isn't a joke.
(Please tell me you're kidding)

Z- omg are you serious??!?!?!?

A- yes. im trying to make tea but my mom usually makes it for me but she isnt here. and i am not very good in the kitchen.
(Holy shit, you're actually serious)

A- youre prob wondering how i got into college.
(You took the words right out of my mouth)

Z- oh my lol. it is so not hard. all you do is put the water in the pan, and turn the stove somewhere between medium and high, and let it do its thing lol

A- ok thanks i know how to do the knobs to grill sandwiches yet i cant boil water. fail for me.
(Yes, almost "trying to catch a red hot iron rod with your bare hands" level of fail)

Z- i think maybe you should just not go to school and stay home lol. if you cant boil water, how are you gonna live at (undisclosed college)?? lol
(Dude, you're matching my thoughts exactly. Why aren't we friends?)

A- well im not gonna need to boil water in a dorm room. plus i have my grandma ten mins away if it ever comes down to that.
(*headdesk*)

What is going on here!?!? ack. Anyways, "A" isn't really a good friend of mine anyways so I don't really feel guilty about bashing her like I am now. Actually, now that I think about it, most of my friends don't like her either.....lol. Actually, something interesting about "A", she got a rather large tattoo of her college's insignia on her calf. Well, apparently she didn't get it at a very good shop because three months later, the tat is faded, the colours have gone from a red to a muddy brown and it just looks like a mess. whoops.

Oh dear oh dear.
All the best,
JP

Fail!

Thought 1: "Whoops, I really effed that up."

Thought 2: "Tell me how calculus will benefit me in any realistic way in the future again?"

Thought 3: "Wow, that's one bad grade"

Thought 4: "I wonder how many tests are left this quarter."

So I failed. And I mean epic failed. I got back a calculus test I took a few weeks back today, and while I did not expect to do well, I didn't expect to get a 37% on it. It turns out a big chunk of my class didn't exactly perform up to par this round and I was no exception. Not to sound pompous, but considering I don't even remember the last time I failed a test, this was quite a slap on the forehead V8 Juice advert-style for me.
Weird thing is, I wasn't terribly upset like I expected myself to be. Maybe it's because I expected to not do so well from the onset, maybe senioritis is really influencing my "do I care?" sense, or maybe it's because it just hasn't sunken in yet, but for now, I'm trying to take things in stride.

I'm thinking of trying to view this as a learning opportunity. Failure in moderation could be a good thing; it keeps one in line, from getting too high strung and cocky. Also, you find out what you need to work on in a hurry, so that next time you won't make the same mistake again.
So, you know what, I failed; and this time, I won't let it get me down.

Anyways, 20 years from now, will I really care about how I did on one high school Calc test?

Enjoy the rest of your week,

JP

FML

Four things happened today.

1. I got a surprise text yesterday telling me that I had to go in to school today to work on getting advertising clients as part of my business manager position in journalism. I did not notice said text until 9:30 this morning because my phone was off the night before, I was supposed to be there at 9.

2. We (meaning me and my business co-position holder Sarah) did not get lunch during our surprise meeting for the first time. I essentially worked my ass off for 6 hours while running on a small bowl of frosted flakes I hastily downed this morning after getting the text.

3. I accidentally brought home a set of keys which I shouldn't have because neither me nor my teacher remembered the detail of returning the set until after I got home an hour later. As it turned out, one of the keys apparently is a master key to all the locks both inside and out in the entire school; so, I got a pleasant surprise 2 mile round trip run to school in prime time summer heat.

4. I friended Ben on facebook today, he accepted, but like what happens every time for me, he's straight. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go read two post back titled "A Week of Sun, Sea, Sand, and Ben". Now, this would be all fine and normal except for the fact that I sorta hit on him during my little holiday, and I don't know how subtle I was or if he picked up on it in any way or form. Needless to say, I feel really awkward and also really bad for any discomfort I might of caused him during his holiday.

Life's a mess right now, and school starts in less than two weeks.
